We’re now looking for someone that is ready for new exciting challenges and willing to enter our family as “Engineering manager - Data & Database Engineering ". 

Here’s what you will do:

What you’ll be doing?

As an engineering manager, practitioner and evangelist,  you’ll create and drive the data and database engineering strategy for Kaleyra. This role requires a heavy hands-on and practical approach in solving complex DB and data related design and production problems. Understanding of Data management life cycle, 3-tier architecture, distributed storage systems, application design and application performance patterns in the world of DB and data is super important. As an evangelist, you’ll closely work with application/engineering managers, drive/promote the implementation of the best practices, and embrace the emerging technology trends of your area.

This is a global role, responsible for supporting & managing the  database systems for all of the Kaleyra products, reports into VP, TechInfra.

  1. Understand the business requirements time-to-time and translate them into technical requirements and initiatives/projects in a way that his/her team understands and aligns

  2. Promote and practice an engineering mindset and have a high bar for automation, operational excellence & security

  3. Ensures that the DB systems/platforms are fine-tuned to deliver the highest possible performance, security and reliability

  4. Map application data requirements into various DB and/or data offerings and propose cost efficient and high performance solutions.

  5. Ensure the site reliability engineering [SRE] principles are adopted and applied to steer promised reliability, performance and security of the database systems/services

  6. Ensure adequate monitoring, backup and recovery and the overall business continuity processes and mechanics are in-place

  7. Mentor, coach and develop a mid sized DB and Data Engineers(8-10)

  8. Promote architectural & problem-solving mindset, project manage multiple competing tech initiatives effectively, exercise data driven decisions

What you’ll bring onboard (skills/competencies)?

  1. 8-10 years expertise as a DB architect/administrator with at least 2-3 years managerial/supervisory experience.

  2. Have worked supporting production class DB systems such as MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB and Enterprise Postgres DB.

  3. Have worked on large scale distributed data, storage & processing systems such as Hadoop BigData, Spark and Kafka.

  4. Expert level knowledge in writing and tuning advanced SQL queries, SparkSQL and New Relic QL.

  5. Exceptional knowledge of technology architecture for large-scale Internet systems with various data and database systems being a central part

  6. Have operated both in DC and Cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure) with the teams that followed DevOps.

  7. Very good written and verbal communication skills. He/she can articulate things very well to his team members and stakeholders.

  8. Exposure to effective operational patterns like SLOs, metrics, health checks, error budgets, distributed tracing, etc., using tools like New Relic, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, etc. is a strong plus

  9. Proficient with microservices architecture, configuring and connecting various data sources from such services.

  10. Have handled configuration management using Puppet/Chef/Ansible

  11. Automation mindset using programming languages such as Python, Java and Shell.
